Shoppers are increasingly using independent stores for ‘top-up shops’ rather than their main food shop. This has resulted in them buying less and exclusively using express and self-checkouts.
The challenge
Nestlé approached us to help them realise ROI by providing a truly engaging customer experience - a fun and creative POS unit for Nestlé Allen’s Medium Lolly Bag range. It was to be placed prominently at express checkouts for maximum conversion. Aside from seamlessly integrating into the overcrowded express checkout area, the POS needed to be easy to assemble, expand without the use of tools, and attach securely to store hardware.
The approach
We created an engaging modular POS solution utilising Nestlé Allen’s brand mascot, the Allen’s snake, by turning the divider poles at stores’ checkout lanes into selling space.
Made from 100% recyclable materials, the modular Allen’s snake unit included an extension kit, which allowed field teams to extend the length of the snake to suit individual in-store divider poles, no matter the size.
The results
The Allen’s Snake unit delivered exceptional results for Nestlé Allen's, with 200 units being placed at express checkouts in 60 stores across Australia. At the 2020! Shop Awards, the POS unit bagged:
- Pinnacle: Best Display
- Gold: Grocery Store (Food) – Permanent Display
- Silver: Retail (Industrial Design) – Permanent Display
Successfully executing the plan, above and beyond KPIs in only 12 weeks, our innovative POS increased sales across Nestlé Allen’s core range by 40%. There were impressive uplifts on hero SKUs too (+65% on SNAKES ALIVE 200g and +58% on PARTY MIX 190g) over two months.
